![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() American factories began manufacturing pantry boxes in the late 1800's. The pantry box was designed to keep bugs and mice away from dry staples, butter and cheese. Pantry boxes may have a plain finish, sealed finish, or painted finish. The painted boxes were used to brighten the usually dark keeping rooms and pantry's. Pantry boxes were sold in nests of graduated sizes. The largest in size were used to store wheels of cheese or slabs of butter; the smaller boxes were used for spices. |
